While the Valley of Fire may sound like another Sin City, we swear this Nevada state park's name stems only from the acres of fiery-colored sandstone (or perhaps the scorching temps in summer). Located just six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Vegas, it's here that Trekkies flock to see the spot where Captain James T. Kirk fell from intergalactic grace in the film Star Trek Generations. Nevada's oldest and largest state park shelters 3,000-year-old Indian petroglyphs and sits on 34,880 acres of spectacular red, orange, and yellow sandstone formations, which, as the sun sets, seem to ignite in flames. |
